With another loss in the books, it appears the distant and I mean distant goal of TFC making the playoffs seems again very unlikely. After yesterdays 3-2 to the Chicago Fire, players and Aron Winters comments post game ensure that there are issues with the TFC camp.
In my opinion, less than 2 years ago the TFC world was very excited to bring Winter and his Dutch crew to TFC. Finally TFC will secure a identity in the MLS and provide the youth system a structure. I still think Winter and crew deserve to see out his three year plan, despite the ongoing saga. Winter comes with a plan, and has very extensive soccer knowledge, unfortunately he doesn't have the players to match his system. With more increasing Euopeans players coming to the MLS they will find Winter's structure more compatible with the systems in Europe.
Much is being made around JDG and his contract, in my opinion if he is on the bench with that salary then this speaks volume of the previous mismanagement of the TFC organization and the quality we have today. He hasn't impressed over his tenure and never should have been paid that money. With De Guzman and Dunfield playing the midfield positions, this shows the lack of quality that TFC has on the roster.
With all the criticism of Winter going around as it should due to the 0-6 start, we often forget Paul Mariner. He is in charge of bringing in the players for Winter to be successful and that hasn't happened.
What I do find interesting about MLSE is that when the Maple Leafs needed to add quality they didn't and now that TFC required quality players they didn't provide. I am wondering if the root of the Toronto franchises is the pending sale of MLSE which handcuffs management.
